AX4N/AX4S questions, answered
What is the difference between the AX4S and AX4N?
The AX4N is the later, non-synchronous version of the AX4S, with revised shift control. They are not interchangeable without checking your application.
What vehicles use the AX4N or AX4S?
These transaxles were used in the Ford Taurus, Mercury Sable, Ford Windstar and Freestar, and Lincoln Continental. Confirm your year and engine before you order.
Are AX4N transmissions reliable?
They can be reliable when maintained, but planetary and overdrive failures are common at high mileage. A remanufactured unit replaces those wear parts and is tested before it ships.
